Fading Gold: Dying Aspen below Banff’s Sawback Range

Aspen trees at the base of the Sawback Range in Banff National Park with Castle Mountain in the background ca. 1950 (Nicholas Morant Collection, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies) and the same location in 2013 (CW-2013-10-31-1523). By the time of the recent photograph, both of the large aspen had died and fallen to  the forest floor, and white spruce is abundant.
