The Pend Oreille River and Kalispel village from near Cusick, Washington in the early 1900s (Edward Curtis, Library of Congress-3a5503-3u) and from a nearby location in September, 2010 (CW Collection-2010-09-26-086). With Kalispel guides, David Thompson first surveyed the lower Pend Orielle River as a potential fur trade route to the Columbia in October, 1809. The historic photograph needs to be retaken from a more exact location, likely out on the river, or further south upstream.
