FuelBreak Operations and Maintenance

Operations and maintenance of fuelbreaks is a key to “roof to region” scale wildland fire management. In many cases it will be a fuelbreak that separate protection zones. Fuelbreaks need maintained, and routine maintenance and familiarity is what makes both the fuelbreak and fire crews effective in an emergency situation. The only differences between maintenance and operations is seasonality, fire weather, and urgency. For maintenance work these can be all in your favour. For operations, these may be all against you.

The following webpages describe good and bad stories from the ops and maintenance of Canadian Rockies fuelbreaks.
