Douglas-fir, white spruce, and lodgepole pine burned by the 1993 prescribed fire on the lower slopes of the Sawback Range near Muleshoe (CW-1993-05A-03), in 2013 after predators reduced elk numbers allowing deciduous tree regeneration (CW-2013-10-09-1435), and in 2016 after Parks Canada did further “light burning”  (CW-2016-07-20-0696). Open conifers and grasslands interspersed with dense groves of aspen and balsam poplar saplings now occur in the area.
