The Dalles on the Lower Columbia River from Sunset Hill with Mt. Adams in the background in 1867 (Carleton Watkins, Oregon State Historical Society, bb000989) and in 2011 (CW-2011-05-01-215). The recent photograph is taken from the city park viewpoint, so could possibly be re-taken from a location closer to the original if the scene is not blocked by trees or housing. Watkins likely double exposed a blown up version of Mount Adams in this print to make it appear larger. This was a common technique of the period.
