Grand Coulee on the Columbia River in 1917 (Asahel Curtis, University of Washington Special Collections) and  the Grand Coulee Dam in 2013 (CW Collection 2013-05-27-264). David Thompson mapped this section of the river in July, 1811 passing numerous villages of  Native Americans gathered to fish for salmon.
