Powerline on Eldon Hill in 2017 during the AltaLink upgrade project and in 2025 as standards for forest screening to protect viewscapes have been applied.
Historically, the Eldon Hill on the Bow Valley Parkway was an area of glades created by multiple fires crossing into the Bow Valley from near Vermilion Pass. Since the last fire in 1908 a dense lodgepole pine forest has occupied the area and is predicted to have extreme wildfire behavior–especially after an expected after a wave of expected mountain pine beetle mortality.
