Deerfield in the Black Hills

The Custer Black Hill’s Expedition begins to set up camp in the meadows near what became the historic village of Deerfield, South Dakota on July 26, 1874 (William H. Illingworth, South Dakota State Historical Society, I- Photo 811), the same location in 1972 (R. H. Sowell, Figure 10-B in Yellow Ore…)1 and viewed again in 2016 (CW-2016-06-19-0463).
