Church House, Bute Inlet, BC

Homalko First Nation village of  Church House at the entrance to Bute Inlet in 1870 (BC Archives A-03998) and in June, 2014 (CW Collection 2014-07-02-2152).

The Canadian Pacific Railway survey evaluated this inlet as a route for the transcontinental railway.

In 1970, paddled there is a canvas cedar canoe with my brother David Roberts who had squatted years before on North Rendezvous Island. it was a amazing to see the children on the raised walkways handing over the shoreline. I went to the small seemly empty church and played on a a pump organ. The children followed me and my log-haired brother. It was a page out of the past . joseph@commonground.ca

    1. That Desolation Sound country is amazing…. sailing or cruising around every bend makes you think about how people lived there for thousands of years. cw
